RESOURCES TO ENHANCE MULTI-SENSORY LEARNING

MLG Publishing under the brand name of Miniflashcard Language Games has long produed produces thousands of photocopiable line drawings which entice students into structured learning in the disguise of familiar games. Games provide the opportunties for repetition and consolidation which many students need, without the risk of them becoming bored or losing interest. Some sample titles:

Drake Language Master - A unique device which can support pupils pictorially, orally, aurally and with text as well. Many publishers now offer ready-made Language Master cards to support their foreign language courses but you can also buy blank cards and make your own.

Penfriend XL is a Screen Reader, Onscreen Keyboard and Word Predictor in the major European languages. It works with almost any other software on your computer such as word processors, spreadsheets or email programs. You have to have the relevant voices installed on your computer, though. INTERACTIVE FOOTBALL DVD TO HELP KIDS ACHIEVE LANGUAGE GOALS

An interactive DVD has been produced to help children learn English, Spanish, Italian and German using the power of football. The Crowded Cottage

The Crowded Cottage is a free CD-ROM resource presented in written English and signed in British Sign Language. Aimed at deaf primary aged children, it tells a traditional Scottish folk tale in BSL and English and has a number of interactive activities so that learners can practise aspects of English, for example: prepositions. There is also a bilingual glossary.

The disc will run on Macintosh with System 9 or a System 9 emulator, and on Windows XP.

This resource was developed by the Multimedia Curriculum Support for Deaf Pupils project at the University of Edinburgh, under the directorship of Mary Brennan and with financial help from the Scottish Executive.
